European Orange Juice Imports Predicted at Record Low in 2008

European orange juice imports are likely to drop to record-low levels during Marketing Year 2008.

European consumers appear to be opting for fresh orange juice and trying exotic fruitjuices rather than maintaining the same level of reconstituted orange juice consumption.

While the EU-27 is a net importer of citrus/products, the European Union Mediterranean basin citrus producers produce all but just over ten percent of the European-consumed fresh citrus.

In addition to the extremely important domestic market, they also work very diligently to protect and expand the U.S. market for Clementine oranges, and have expressed serious concerns regarding the proposal to establish a marketing order for Clementine oranges sold in the United States.
