General Motors states that it “will invest $245 million and add 300 new jobs at its Orion Assembly plant to support launching an all-new vehicle program unlike any in the plant’s 32-year history.”
While we don’t know what the “all-new vehicle program” is, we do know that the upcoming Chevrolet Bolt pure electric car will be built at Orion Assembly, so possibly there’s some connection between the Bolt and this “all-new vehicle program.”
General Motors was asked by several journalist what this “all-new vehicle program” refers to. GM declined to comment.
In the release on the investment at the factory we see General Motors taking the opportunity to re-iterate the range of the Bolt:
“This latest investment comes just seven months after the announcement of a $160-million investment to launch Chevrolet’s game-changing Bolt EV, which is expected to achieve more than 200 miles of range on a single electric charge.”
