Volkswagen announced the official launch of its second plug-in hybrid model after the Golf GTE – the Passat GTE (available in a longer Variant version too).

Sales in first few countries already began (in Germany from €44,250), while the rollout in Europe will take a few months.
Volkswagen is getting ready to begin sales in Asia this year too.
Passat GTE has range of 50 km/ 31 miles (NEDC) from its 9.9 kWh lithium-ion battery. Real world range will be closer to 20 miles.
Volkswagen stated that fuel economy stands at 1.7-1.6 l/100 km and 12,8-12,2 kWh/100 km. Passat GTE Variant will use a little more electricity 12,9-12,4 kWh/100 km. To achieve those results, use of all-electric mode must be large part of the mileage.
On the drivetrain side Passat GTE iss equipped with 1.4-liter TSI gas engine with 156 HP (115 kW), supported by an electric motor with 115 HP (85 kW) and 400 Nm (243 lb-ft) for total 160 kW / 219 hp system power.
