TFT-LCD panel shipments from China-based LCD makers will see a 243% on-year jump in 2006 amid a fast growth in LCD monitor panel shipments from SVA-NEC Liquid Crystal Display (SVA-NEC) and BOE Optoelectronics Technology (BOE OT).

China-based SVA-NEC is expected to ship 7.36 million LCD monitor panels in 2006, up 254% from 2.08 million units in 2005. BOE OT will see overall panel shipment totaling 5.93 million units this year, compared to 3.39 million units in 2005.

BOE OT currently has one fifth-generation (5G) plant, which focuses on 15-, 17-, and 19-inch LCD monitor panels. Monthly shipments of 19-inch LCD monitor panels from BOE OT have reached 500,000-600,000 units. The company also began producing 19-inch widescreen LCD monitor panels in August 2006.

Although BOE OT also has some LCD TV panel output including products for the 20.1- and 26-inch TV segments, the company's shipment volumes remain small. BOE OT has planned test production of 47-inch LCD TV panels for next year.

SVA-NEC has expanded monthly capacity at its 5G plant to 100,000 units, with 15- and 17-inch segments being the major focus. The company plans to sample 19-inch widescreen LCD monitor panels soon. The company's LCD TV business is mainly focused on 20.1- and 26-inch panels. SVA-NEC plans mass production of 47-inch LCD TV panels to start in 2007.

The sources also noted SVA-NEC's 6G plant will commence production in 2008, with month capacity of 60,000 substrates.
