Prices for 32-inch LCD TVs are likely to fall below NT$20,000 (about US$609) by the end of 2007. The average prices for the segment currently stay at NT$23,900-26,900.With the price reduction, the 32-inch segment will further squeeze the market share of the 20-inch-class segment in Taiwan.

The mainstream size of LCD TVs in Taiwan last year was 32-inch, which accounts for 60-70% of the market. However, Cheng predicted that 40- and 42-inch ones will grow to account for 15% of the overall LCD TV sales in Taiwan in 2007, compared to 8% last year.

It is predicted prices for 42-inch LCD TVs will drop below NT$40,000 by year-end. The average prices for 32-inch LCD TVs are 499-699 euros (about US$647-906) and US$500-700, respectively, in Europe and North America at present. Prices for the segment are now 5,000 yuan (about US$643) now in China.

With Chi Mei Optoelectronics (CMO) panel, the 32-inch TV features a resolution of 1,366x768, a brightness of 500 nits and a contrast ratio of 1,000:1.
