China UnionPay Co has teamed up with Austria's Europay to let UnionPay card holders have access to automatic teller machines in Austria, China's sole bank card system operator said yesterday.
Europay will first open 3,000 ATMs to UnionPay from today and boost the figure to all its 8,000 ATMs at the end of 2008, and let card-holders access its point-of-sale machines. Europay has a network of about 90,000 POS in Austria, accounting for 100 percent of ATM networks and 90 percent of POS networks in the country. More Chinese are visiting Austria, with the figure expected to hit 200,000 soon.
