LCD TV vendors are pushing products in China at the beginning of October during a national week-long holiday by slashing prices, according to sources.

China-based Xiamen Overseas Chinese Electronics (Xoceco) recently reduced prices for its 32- and 47-inch LCD TVs to 5,500 yuan (US$732) and 13,680 yuan, respectively, to stimulate demand. TCL, meanwhile, also lowered prices for its 37- and 47-inch LCD TVs by around 1,000 yuan to 8,000 yuan and 14,000 yuan, respectively. A 47-inch LCD TV from Skyworth is now priced at 14,000 yuan, according to online shopping websites in China.

In addition to Chinese brands, international brands such as Samsung, Sony and Sharp are also pushing products with an aggressive pricing strategy. Philips, for example, is offering a 32-inch LCD TV for 5,100 yuan, down from nearly 7,000 yuan, according to the websites.

Because of the holiday push, monthly LCD TV panel demand from China LCD TV makers such as Konka, Haier and TCL amount to around 100,000-200,000 units, noted Taiwan LCD panel makers.

Apart from LCD TV panels, makers are also increasing their orders of PDP (plasma display panel) with monthly demand from Hisense and Changhong at around 9,000 and 8,000 units, respectively, noted sources.
