CHINA'S securities regulator plans to improve its supervision of the nation's brokerages to help maintain stable economic growth and steady capital markets, it has said.

The regulatory focus will shift to preventing "new risks" from solving existing ones, China Securities Regulatory Commission Chairman Shang Fulin said in a statement posted on the commission's Website.

The regulator will also explore ways to "properly" handle the relationship between innovation and tightened supervision, Shang told a meeting of officials from securities companies, the statement said, according to Bloomberg News.
