Compal Electronics has set its notebook shipment goal for 2011 at 60 million units, up 20% on year, after confirmation of orders from Acer, Dell, Lenovo and Toshiba. The company will have a chance to surpass Quanta Computer and become the leader of the notebook manufacturing market, according to sources from notebook players.
Meanwhile, Wistron has set its goal at 35 million units, also up about 20% on year, and Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) 20 million units, mainly benefiting from orders from Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Dell, and will have a chance too surpass Inventec and become the fourth-largest notebook maker worldwide.
With the strong shipments in 2011, in addition to Compal's currently capacity expansion plans at its Kunshan plant in China, the company will also require capacity from its new plants in Vietnam and Sichuan province, China to fulfill the demand.
