Taiwan-based ODM makers Compal Electronics and Wistron have each set a challenging shipment goal of 10 million LCD TVs for 2011, with each expecting orders for seven million units from Toshiba, according to industry sources in Taiwan.
Both companies together account for up to 90% of Toshiba's outsourcing orders in 2011, while Pegatron Technology accounts for the rest of the outsourcing orders from the Japan vendor, the sources added.
Wistron is optimistic about growth in the LCD TV market and is expanding its production capacity in Guangdong, China, the sources said, adding that some market observers even expect Wistron to ship up to 12-15 million LCD TVs in 2011.
But the two companies' LCD TV shipments were lower-than-expected in the first half of 2010, the sources said.
Wistron, which shipped 1.8 million LCD TVs in the first half of 2010, has adjusted its LCD TV shipment goal for the year to 5-6 million units from its previous target of 5.5-6.6 million units, the sources added.
Compal only shipped two million LCD TVs in the first half of 2010 and it may be difficult for it to attain its 2010 target of six million units, the sources noted.
