China government's rural subsidy program drove TV sales in the county and township-level in the first half of 2010, accounting for 66% of the total TV sales in those areas, according to research firm All View Consulting (AVC).
TV shipments through the subsidy program totaled 5.57 million units in the first half of 2010, of which four million units were LCD TVs, AVC noted. The research firm estimates that TV shipments through the program will reach 13.36 million units in 2010, of which 10.74 million will be LCD TVs.
AVC added that local brands accounted for 90% of the TV sales in the village-level market, and overall TV sales in the village-level market are expected to increase by 24% on year.
