Taiwan-based touch panel makers Cando, Young Fast Optoelectronics, Wintek and Sintek Photonics will begin shipping in small volume medium-size capacitive touch panels used in tablet PCs in the September and October 2010.

According to the panel makers, they will ship 10.1-inch and 11.6-inch products to contract manufacturers, which are expected to use the touch panels for white-box tablet PCs and telecom carriers' own-brand models. Shipments to international brand vendors will start in the first quarter of 2011.

Shipments of medium-size capacitive touch panels have been held up largely due to the introduction of Apple's iPad, which has disrupted system makers' original plans to develop notebooks and netbooks using the panel technology. With companies reevaluating their product roadmaps to include tablet PCs, many projects using medium-size capacitive touch panels were modified and delayed to the end of 2010.
