Third-quarter 2010 revenues of LED epitaxial wafer and chip maker Genesis Photonics are expected to increase by about 40% sequentially amid increasing shipments for TV backlighting applications and expanding demand for LED billboards in China.

The company is expected to benefit from about NT$1 billion (US$31 million) worth of orders for billboards from China in 2010, which will account for over 30% of Genesis' overall revenues for the year.

Increasing shipments for backlighting from brand-name clients in Korea, Taiwan, Japan and China have become the major growth driver for Genesis, and revenues from medium-range to high-power LEDs for TV backlighting and outdoor lighting will account for 45% of its overall revenues in 2010.

Genesis' revenues from LED epitaxial wafers are expected to increase more than double on year in 2011, benefiting from the billboard demand in China.

Genesis is rapidly expanding its MOCVD capacity since the company has entered the TV backlighting supply chain. The company added nine MOCVD sets in the first half of 2010 and plans to add another twenty in the second half of the year. Genesis is expected to have a total of 55 MOCVD sets for blue and green LED chip production at the end of 2010.
