The cost gap between 46-inch and 55-inch 3D and 2D LED TVs is at US$150, according to Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), adding that the difference is still too great for 3D LED TV to gain significant market penetration.120MHz 46-inch 2D LED TVs are being priced at US$1,143.8 on average versus US$1,284.9 for 240MHz 46-inch 3D LED TVs. For 55-inch models, 120MHz 2D TVs average US$1,539.9 compared with US$1,697 for 240MHz 3D LED TVs, ITRI indicated.
Though the cost gap is still considerable, 3D TV prices have fallen to a level acceptable in the high-end consumer segment.
LCD is expected to remain the ideal technology in 3D development, and is expected to represent a 82.8% market share, according to Digitimes Research. PDP and OLED will account for 12.6% and 2.4% shares of the market. In addition, naked-eye 3D TV will replace those models that are based on glasses technology in the next five years, said sources from the industry.
