China-based solar company LDK Solar confirmed plans to complete a 5GWp solar wafer capacity increase by the end of 2015, which will bring its total capacity to more than 7GWp, and LDK has purchased land in Jiangxi Province for expansion purposes. LDK has yet to release details of the expansion plans.

LDK's announcement is expected to motivate other companies in China to raise capacity, sources from the industry indicated. In particular GCL, which is also aggressively expanding and has over 2GWp in annual wafer capacity, the source said.
