Taiwan-based network equipment makers including D-Link, Accton Technology, Alpha Networks and Gemtek Technology are ready to enter into the production of devices supporting connected TVs such as Apple TV and Google TV, according to industry sources.

The sources also indicated that CyberTAN Technology will begin to ship STBs for connected TV by the end of the first quarter of 2011 with annual shipments likely to reach one million units.

While most makers have been keeping a low profile as to which types of connected TVs they are supporting, they are believed to be engaging in the development of devices supporting Google TV, and most of them are likely to launch products in the first half of 2011, the sources noted.

Some network equipment makers also indicated that they have been receiving inquiries for external STBs and built-in modules from brand name TV vendors.
