Taiwan-based small- to medium-size LCD panel and electrophoretic display (EPD) maker E Ink Holdings (EIH) saw its September consolidated revenues increase 33% sequentially and 42.35% on year, while fellow small- to medium-size panel maker Emerging Display Technologies (EDT) reported a 4.74% sequential and 46.87% on-year growth for September revenues.
EIH's consolidated revenues totaled NT$2.12 billion (US$68.97 million) in September. Consolidated revenues for the third quarter totaled NT$5.27 billion, up about 2% compared to the second quarter. Consolidated revenues for the first three quarters of 2010 were NT$15.45 billion, increasing 39.08% on year.
EIH's third-quarter revenue growth was lower than market observers' previous expectations. However, due to significant decreases in prices of EPDs shipped to its major clients in the third quarter, the overall revenue figures were unable to reflect the growth of EIH's shipments in the quarter.
EDT's September revenues reached NT$400.49 million. Revenues for the third quarter totaled NT$1.13 billion, up 22% sequentially. Accumulated revenues for January-September were NT$2.88 billion, an increase of 47.56% on year.
EDT's revenues in September continued to grow due to increased shipments of touch panels, as well as a recovery in demand for STN products. EDT's revenues are expected to continue to grow in the fourth quarter, and revenues of touch panels are expected to reach 20% of its total revenues.
