The Taiwan government has established a digital convergence promotion group, with members from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, National Communications Commission (NCC), and other ministries and agencies, and set digital convergence goals for 2015, according to the Executive Yuan.
To facilitate digital convergence, it is essential to amend four laws concerned, namely, Telecommunications Act, Radio and Television Act, Cable Radio and Television Act and Satellite Broadcasting Act, NCC pointed out. The amendments are to be finished by the end of 2011, NCC indicated.
The 2015 goals for digital convergence include 80% penetration of households for broadband Internet access at 100Mbps download speeds, six million FTTx subscribers, two million subscribers of broadband wireless (including mobile) Internet access, and 50% of households to use digital cable TV services.
