Intel CEO Paul Otellini visited Taiwan on October 28 and signed with the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), the National Science Council (NSC), the Ministry of Education (MOE) and telecom carrier Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) for cloud computing cooperation projects to be undertaken in Taiwan, promising support for Taiwan to develop cloud computing technologies and applications.

MOEA | To help MOEA develop Taiwan's cloud computing industry, with aims to turn Taiwan's role from a global IT hardware supplier to a supplier of cloud computing hardware, software and services. Intel's assistance includes 1,000 sets of processors/chipsets/firmware and related Data Center Management software licensing worth NT$29 million (US$940,000) in total; technical consulting in design and establishment of data centers and input of 25 members of Intel's Asia Pacific and Taiwan technical staff worth NT$100 million; and 10 seminars and manpower training worth NT$10 million. Intel and MOEA will cooperate to offer contests for development of innovative cloud computing-based applications for use in devices equipped with Intel Atom processors, and Intel Taiwan will join the Cloud Computing Association in Taiwan (reorganized from the Taiwan Cloud Computing Consortium). |
NSC | Intel will cooperate with a top university to set up a joint laboratory to develop embedded computing solutions for commercial use, with Intel, NSC and the university to equally share a budget of NT$750 million. |
