Wintek plans to transfer its 3G production lines for AMOLED and LTPS panel production and will start preparing for mass production in 2011.
Market sources expect Wintek to start mass production at the end of 2011.
Regarding recent market rumors indicating that Wintek plans to invest NT$30 billion (US$99.65 million) for AMOLED production, Wintek responded that it is evaluating possible investments for the next few years.
Regarding rumors that Wintek will transfer Windell in the Taichung Industrial Park for AMOLED panel production, Wintek explained that Windell is a terminated company, which had plans to develop OLED production, but the timing for the investment was not right and Windell never went into the field. The research and development team of Windell remains at Wintek and continues to develop AMOLED products.
Wintek indicated that with material and production of AMOLED maturing, Wintek is turning more active in terms of the technology and is optimistic about AMOLED being the key technology for small-size products such as handsets.
