IC component and material distributor Wahlee Industrial expects solar wafers, LEDs and touch-panel products to account for about 15-20% of the company's 2011 revenues, up from 9.5% in the third quarter of 2011.
For solar wafers, Wahlee is the distributor of China-based wafer maker GCL-Poly, and now supplies to top-tier Taiwan-based solar cell makers including Motech Industries and E-Ton Solar Tech and several makers in China.
Monthly revenues from solar wafers are currently at NT$100 million (US$3.3 million) and NT$900 million to NT$1 billion is projected for the entire 2010. Substantial growth is expected for 2011.
With a persisting shortage of solar wafers, Wahlee has found it difficult to increase solar wafer sales thus far in 2010, the company noted. However, with GCL-Poly planning to raise capacity to 5GWp in 2011, Wahlee will should see more sufficient supply. GCL-Poly wafers will constitute roughly NT$30 million a month in revenues in 2011, the company added.
