Amtran Technology has reportedly landed LCD monitor orders from LG Electronics, in addition to orders from Acer and Hewlett-Packard, according to industry sources.

Amtran got the LG orders through its partnership with LG Display to set up an LCM joint venture in China, the sources noted.

Amtran has been withdrawing from LCD monitors for 2-3 years to concentrate on LCD TVs mainly for US-based vendor Vizio, the sources indicated, but since Vizio's 2010 TV sales in North America are expected to decrease on year mainly due to strong competition from Samsung Electronics, Amtran has returned to monitors, the sources said, adding Amtran aims to ship 5-7 million monitors in 2011, mainly LED-backlit models.

Amtran shipped over one million LCD TVs in third-quarter 2010, resulting in 3.5 million units for January-September, the sources indicated. Including its China subsidiary, Amtran is expected to ship six million LCD TVs in 2010, the sources forecast.
