Touch panel demand is expected to continue to increase in the fourth quarter of 2010 and supply will also remain short due to growing demand from both Apple and other vendors. TPK Touch Solutions and Wintek are expected to report record revenues in November, with the later expected to have net profits of up to NT$2 billion (US$65.9 million).
Wintek has declined to comment on market estimates, but indicated that monthly revenues have reached NT$8-8.5 billion. Wintek noted that current capacity and supply remains tight but client demand remains strong, and a lot of production lines rely on cooperation from upstream suppliers to keep running smoothly.
In addition to the largest clients, orders from other branded vendors are seeing significant growth, mainly for handset products. Orders for tablet PC products from other branded vendors are also increasing but not as significantly as the largest clients.
Market rumors indicate that Wintek has landed orders for DSC touch panels from Sony, but Wintek has declined to comment. Wintek's touch panel shipments mainly concentrate on handsets and tablet PCs, and shipments for DSC touch panels are relevantly small. Wintek added that the company has started mass production of some medium- and small-size models of its Touch on Lens products, which combine a touch panel and cover glass. Although market sources are optimistic about the demand for Touch on Lens, current shipments are not significant to the company's total shipments.
