Taiwan-based notebook ODMs have recently demanded IC suppliers prepare all necessary parts and components to assure that their supplies of related notebook ICs will be sufficient in the next three months, according to industry sources.
IC vendors expect their shipments of notebook ICs to begin gaining momentum in December and peak in January 2011 as branded notebook vendors are to launch new models in early 2011 in line with the launch of new CPUs from Intel and AMD, the sources indicated.
Analog IC vendor Global Mixed-mode Technology (GMT) has received short lead-time orders for tablet PCs from Acer, Integrated Technology Express (ITE) and Ene Technology have landed orders for keyboard controller ICs, while Sonix Technology has seen a rebound in orders for webcam ICs, the sources noted.
