Singapore-based ECS Technology, a subsidiary of Hong Kong-listed technology product distributor irasia.com, plans to issue US$50 million worth of Taiwan depositary receipts (TDRs) and since irasia.com has recently obtained the rights to distribute Apple's iPads in the China market, the company is expected to pose direct competition against Taiwan-based distributor Synnex Technology International, which is mainly focusing on both China and Taiwan channel operations.

An executive of irasia.com pointed out that over 60% of the company's revenues are coming from the China market, but as countries in both Asia Pacific and Southeast Asia such as Thailand, India, Malaysia and Vietnam all have potential for strong growth, the company is hoping to raise funds through the TDRs to expand operational bases into those markets.
