Asustek Computer expects to account for 2.5% of the global LCD monitor market in 2010, and expects to rank in the top-ten if its sales in December continue to increase, according to the company.
Asustek indicated that its overall LCD monitor business in 2010 showed a decline in Europe, stayed flat in the US and growth in Asia, and the company expects its global LCD monitor shipments to reach 3.7 million units for the year due to its leading position in launching new monitors such as 3D models in the market.
Looking into 2011, Asustek expects demand in Europe to increase due to the transition of analog to digital broadcasting. The global LCD monitor market is expected to reach 160 million units in 2011 and Asustek is expected to ship 4.5 million units with a 3% market share.
Asustek plans to enter the front projector market in the second half of 2011 and will first focus on DLP technology-based models for the commercial market. The projector will be able to from two meters distance and will use LED lighting, for a 100-200 lumen brightness. Second phase development will focus on the conference room market and then household or home theater markets.
Asustek ranked top in Taiwan's LCD monitor market in 2010 with 28% market share and shipped 500,000 units for the year, Acer followed in second with 21% share. Asustek noted that the company aims for 35% share of the 1.7 million units LCD monitor market in Taiwan in 2011, which means Asustek needs to ship 600,000 LCD monitors in 2011.
