Taiwan-based second-tier notebook maker Clevo expects its notebook shipments in the fourth quarter of 2010 to reach a new historical record at 560,000-570,000 units, benefiting from procurement orders as well as returning orders from previous clients. Since the company's notebook business requires shipments of 120,000-130,000 units to break even, the strong shipments in the fourth quarter should allow the company to profit, the company noted.

As for the first quarter of 2011, Clevo expects shipments to see significant growth compared to a year earlier with monthly volumes to stay above 150,000 units.

In addition to notebook business, Clevo's retail channel business Buynow in China is expected to contribute more than NT$700 million (US$23.76 million) to the company's revenues in 2010 with 17 out of its 20 stores across China to see net profits after tax.

As for the other three stores, Clevo pointed out unsatisfactory performance of the store in Beijing was because of its high rental cost, while stores in Harbin and Chongqing just recently opened and will need to some time to amortize the cost for purchasing the buildings. However, the company expects the three locations to improve gradually in the future.
