Taiwan had 527,000 jobless citizens in November 2010, equivalent to an unemployment rate of 4.73% which decreased by 0.19 percentage point on month and by 1.13 percentage point on year, according to statistics released by the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) on December 22.
Taiwan's population aged 15 and over stood at 19.136 million in November, consisting of 11.132 million for labor force and 8.004 million for non-labor force with a labor participation rate of 58.17%, DGBAS indicated.
In November, Taiwan's unemployment rate was lower than 9.8% in the US, 7.9% in UK, 7.6% in Canada, 7.0% in Germany, 5.1% in Japan but higher than 4.1% in Hong Kong, 3.2% in South Korea and 2.1% in Singapore, DGBAS pointed out.
