HTC has appointed former Sony Ericsson VP of Global Operations Matthew Costello as its new COO.

HTC on December 28 announced the appointment of Costello as COO of the company effective immediately. Costello will be based in Taiwan, and be responsible for all operations at HTC including manufacturing, supply chain, sourcing, customer service and technology infrastructure. Costello will report to Fred Liu, who has been promoted to President of Engineering, Operations and Sales.

HTC reportedly is looking to ship 60 million smartphones in 2011, up from the 20 million units estimated for 2010.
