Flytech Technology, currently the largest Taiwan-based maker of POS devices, on January 4 announced the acquisition of a 60% stake in OTEK System, a Taiwan-based maker of touch displays for industrial and commercial applications, at NT$41.136 million (US$1.36 million) to enhance the diversity of its POS models.

The investment is to integrate OTEK's ruggedized touch displays, such as waterproof, dustproof and shockproof models, with Flytech's POS products to broaden their scope, Flytech indicated. In addition, both companies' complementary marketing resources and procurement needs can be integrated to minimize costs, Flytech pointed out.

According to a report by Taiwan-based investor.com.tw, Flytech will complete its new factory in northern Taiwan in 2012, and part of OTEK's production will be shifted there.
