As Android 3.0-based tablet PCs will start appearing in March and April, Acer chairman JT Wang pointed out that the entrance of the tablet PCs will inhibit Apple's dominance in the tablet PC market. Acer's tablet PCs will also start shipping in March and April with a target of acquiring 15-20% of share in the global tablet PC market in 2011.
Wang pointed out that notebooks and netbooks were both seriously affected by Apple's iPad in the past 3-5 months as many consumers have decided to wait and see before buying a new notebook; however, after tablet PCs start appearing in March and April, notebook and netbook sales will both return to normal as consumers relieve their concerns.
In addition to the four ARM-based tablet PCs that Acer introduced at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2011, Acer is also set to launch a MeeGo-based tablet PC in 2011.
Wang pointed out that Acer's tablet PCs will be selling in both retail and telecom channels, while noting that channel vendors are also unwilling to see Apple dominate the tablet PC market, therefore the company will pay special attention to these demands and opinions.
