Lite-On Technology, a Taiwan-based EMS provider, expects fast growing shipments of phone cameras to reach a monthly volume of 18-20 million units in the first half of 2012, with a global share to rise from the fifth largest currently to be among the largest three, according to company CEO KC Terng.
Lite-On saw its phone camera module business take off in the second half of 2009, with the client base increasing from one vendor then to four ones at present, Terng noted. Among the clients, Taiwan-based HTC accounted for 6% of Lite-On's consolidated revenues in 2010 and the proportion is expected to rise to 8% in 2011 and further to 10% in 2012, Terng indicated. Lite-On will is making efforts to enter the supply chain of Apple iPhone, Terng added.
In addition to phone camera modules, Lite-On is currently the world's second or third largest supplier of camera modules used in notebook PCs, with global market share climbing from 17% in 2009 to 25% in 2010, Terng indicated. Lite-On aims to hike its global market share to 30% in 2011, Terng pointed out.
