Taiwan-based notebook vendor Micro-Star International (MSI) is expected to see its notebook shipments grow 10-15% on year in 2011, up from its shipments of 2.8 million units in 2010, according to the market watchers.

Within MSI's 2010 notebooks shipments, shipments of netbooks only accounted for about 15% and reached 420,000 units, a significant drop compared to previous years; however, since MSI internally believes that netbook gross margins will continue to drop in the future and strong shipments will not profit the company much, the company has already switched its focus back to traditional notebook business, the market watchers added.

In response, MSI pointed out that netbook's mainstream price is at about US$299 and limited by the device's cost, price is unlikely to drop further. Although some vendors have launched models that feature a larger screen or unique fashionable designs to boost their price, the company believes those models will only account for 10-15%, a minor portion, of total netbook market share.
