Taiwan-based notebook component makers have received some short lead-time orders recently as brand-name notebook vendors, notably Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Acer, have begun to take up deliveries eagerly from ODMs, according to industry sources.
HP has raised its delivery target for March 2011 to over four million units, compared to below three million units in January and 2.4-2.5 million units in February, the sources indicated.
Shipments of notebooks from Quanta Computer, Foxconn Electronics, Wistron and Inventec to HP will be higher than expected in March due to shipment adjustments at the vendor, noted the sources. However, HP's orders to Compal Electronics and Flextronics International will not be adjusted significantly in March, the sources added.
Acer will also take more deliveries from ODMs in March, especially now it is stepping up its marketing efforts in China, including the build-up of sales channels in cooperation China-based Founder and Sunning Appliance, the source said.
