High-power LED chip packaging house Edison Opto has reported net profits of NT$491 million (US$17 million) on revenues of NT$3 billion for 2010. The earnings translated into a net EPS of NT$6.15, the highest annual level on record.
Edison Opto announced that revenues for 2010 climbed over 70% from a year earlier while net profits increased 50%. However, gross margin for 2010 slid to 26.68% from 31% in 2009.
Edison Opto will distribute a dividend per share of NT$5, NT$3.50 in cash and NT$1.50 in stock, for its 2010 operations, the company said.
Edison Opto also revealed plans to increase capital in its wholly-owned subsidiary in Yangzhou, China with a total transaction estimated at US$8 million.
Edison Opto is set to expand monthly capacity to 50 million high-power LEDs in 2011, up from 20 million in the fourth quarter of 2010, the company was quoted as saying in previous reports.
In addition, Edison Opto indicated that its board of directors has passed a proposal to set up a venture capital firm with an aim to carry out its strategy to provide vertical integration solutions from components, modules to actual products for customers. The new company will be built with registered capital of NT$200 million, and will have a paid-in capital of NT$100 million initially.
