Consumer product IC designers Elan Microelectronics and Sonix Technology both saw revenues decline by a double-digit rate sequentially in February 2011.
Elan registered NT$314 million (US$10.7 million) in February revenues, down 15.6% from NT$421.5 million in January. Revenues for the first two months of 2011 slid 1.8% from a year earlier to NT$735 million.
Elan will see shipments boost in the third quarter of 2011 buoyed by rising demand coming from the smartphone and tablet PC sectors, previous reports quoted industry sources as saying. The company reportedly is expected to ship a total of 500,000 touch panel ICs in the third quarter.
Sonix, focusing on consumer electronics products such as micro-controller units (MCU) and controller ICs used in PC webcams and digital cameras, has announced that February revenues decreased 19.9% sequentially to NT$205 million. Accumulated revenues through February totaled NT$461 million, down 28.4% from the NT$644 million posted in the first two months of 2010.
