Quanta Computer on March 8 reported consolidated revenues of NT$60.049 billion (US$2.036 billion) for February 2011, dropping 21.68% on month and 18.85% on year. January-February revenues were NT$136.721 billion down 11.29%.
The on-month decrease was mainly because of the negative impact of defective Intel 6-series chipsets on its notebook shipments, Quanta explained.
Quanta shipped 3.2 million notebooks in February, short of analyst expectations, industry sources indicated. Quanta shipped 7.4 million units in the first two months of 2011 and maintains its forecast of a 5-10% sequential decrease in first-quarter shipments, and so is under pressure of shipping 4.9-5.6 million units in March to meet the projection, the sources noted.
As for tablet PCs, Quanta indicated that volume shipments will take off in the second quarter.
