Passive component maker Holy Stone has announced that the tantalum capacitor plant of its Japan-based subsidiary Holy Stone Ploytech Company (HPC) located in the Fukushima prefecture will resume operations on March 22. The plant was temporarily shut down after the March 11 earthquake.

Production facilities at the plant were not damaged by the earthquake and only a small portion of equipment needs to be adjusted before the plant resumes normal production, the company said.

While capacity of the plant has not been affected by the earthquake, the Japan government's policy, brownout measures adopted by the power company, and local logistics problems still may impact the plant's business, the company noted.

As revenues generated by HPC accounted for less than 5% of Holy Stone's total revenues in 2010, the overall impact of the earthquake on Holy Stone will not be significant financially, the company stated.

While noting that demand for MLCCs has been strong recently, the supply of passive components will remain steady in the short term due to sufficient stocks at most vendors, Holy Stone indicated.
