With vendors actively promoting LED-backlit LCD monitor, and some vendors having completely transferred their product line to LED-backlit models in the first quarter of 2011, prices between LED-backlit and CCFL-backlit for 23-inch and smaller models are expected to level in the second half of 2011, and market share of 20- to 23-inch LCD monitors is expected to increase to 60% in 2011, up from previous 50%.

In Taiwan, LED-backlit monitors accounted for about 30% of the total LCD monitor market in the fourth quarter of 2010 and about 20% for the whole year. Promotions for LED-backlit monitors sped up in January-February 2011, vendors such as Chimei and ViewSonic have transformed their product line into LED backlight only, while BenQ plans to introduce LED-backlit monitors in the second quarter and expects LED-backlit models to account for 80% of BenQ's total shipments in 2011. Asustek Computer remain focused on CCFL-backlit models with only about 30% share for LED-backlit models, but will start competing in the LED-backlit market in March.

LCD monitor players indicated that price gap between LED-backlit and CCFL-backlit models continue to narrow. There is almost no difference in prices for 18.5-inch models, and the gap for 22-inch models has narrowed down to NT$300-400, and over NT$500-600 for larger-size models. The overall market share for LED-backlit monitors in Taiwan LCD monitor market is expected to reach 40% in the first quarter of 2011 and reach 80% in the fourth quarter of 2011.

In terms of product size, 21.5- to 24-inch models started to take up market share for 18.5-inch models in the first quarter of 2011, lowering the market share of 19-inch and smaller models to 27-28%, and is expected to drop to around 25% in the second quarter. The share for 20- to 23-inch models continue to increase, and has reached 60% from 50% at the end of 2010. The share for 24-inch and larger will also continue to increase and is expected to exceed 20% in 2011.

With the price gap continuing to narrow, CCFL-backlit models are expected to be phased out of the market at the end of 2011.
