Since vendors including Hewlett-Packard, Acer, Lenovo and Asustek Computer are competing for ODM capacity, notebook ODMs including Quanta Computer, Compal Electronics, Wistron and Pegatron Technology will see their shipments in March increase 40-50% on month, according to component makers.
Because of defective Intel 6-series chipsets, vendors had to delay their launches of Sandy Bridge notebooks originally scheduled for February-March, the sources indicated. Following Intel providing B3 chipsets, ODM production of Sandy Bridge models has concentrated in March, causing tight supply of capacity, the sources said.
In particular, Lenovo is taking increased delivery volumes to meet expected peak demand during the Labor Day vacation in early May in the China market, the sources noted.
