US-based SMC Networks, a supplier of own-brand broadband networking equipment for MSOs (multi-system operators of cable TV) in North America, has cumulatively shipped one million DOCSIS (data over cable service interface specification) 3.0 cable gateways, according to Taiwan-based networking/communication equipment maker Accton Technology, which acquired a 100% stake in SMC in 1997.
With outsourced production by Taiwan-based Hitron Technologies, SMC has established long-term cooperation with most of MSOs in North America, Accton indicated. In addition, SMC has begun to sell digital home devices to cable TV subscribers through it MSO clients, Accton indicated.
