Wintek will begin establishing a factory for touch panel modules and LCD modules (LCMs) in Bac Giang Province, northeastern Vietnam, with an initial investment of US$100-150 million, according to the company.
Wintek will install equipment in the second quarter and start production as early as the third or fourth quarter of 2011, the company indicated.
The factory is to expand its production capacity for touch panel modules for use in iPad 2, with supply expected to take off in the second half of 2011, Wintek pointed out. In addition, labor costs in Vietnam are lower than in China, Wintek noted. Wintek will recruit 5,000-10,000 workers initially for the factory.
