Vivitek expects to ship 300,000 DLP projectors globally in 2011, hiking 80% from 2010, according to Vivitek Taiwan.

In the China market, Vivitek ranked fourth in terms of projector-shipments in the fourth quarter and eighth for the year, Vivitek Taiwan indicated. For DLP projectors alone, Vivitek was the third-largest brand in China during 2010.

Texas Instruments (TI) supplies DLP chips to Vivitek. TI's two DLP chip factories were damaged by the earthquake in Japan, and one will resume partial operations in April and become fully operational in July, while the other has resumed part of its capacity and will reach full operation in mid-April, Vivitek Taiwan said.

Due to worries about short supply of DLP chips, vendors have competed to take deliveries earlier than originally scheduled, and large brands including Vivitek have gained priority, Vivitek Taiwan noted.

Vivitek on March 31 opened an exhibition center in Taipei, the first in the Taiwan market.
