Asustek Computer is expected to see its monthly motherboard shipments reach 2.5-3 million units in the second quarter of 2011 as demand from the first quarter was delayed to the second quarter, according to sources from upstream component makers.
The sources pointed out that first-tier motherboard players all saw their February revenues drop 30% on month because of fewer working days in the month as well as Intel's defective chipset incident. Although demand in March rose slightly, most of the sales were from replacements of the defective chipset, therefore, the motherboard players believe demand is being delayed to the second quarter.
The company's motherboard shipments in the first quarter may be less than 5.4 million units, lower than 5.6 million units in the fourth quarter of 2010, the sources added.
In addition to Asustek, Gigabyte Technology, which also did not achieve good revenue performance in the first quarter, is also expected to see 15% sequential growth in the second quarter with revenues to also see growth, the sources added.
