Network IC design house Ralink Technology has announced consolidated revenues of NT$836 million (US$29 million) for March 2011, up 25% on month. Consolidated sales for the first quarter rose 17% sequentially to NT$2.13 billion, beating the company's single-digit growth estimate.
Ralink credited the positive result to growth in WLAN and xDSL chip shipments.
Ralink recently announced its merger with MediaTek, which will become effective on October 1, 2011.
The respective boards of Ralink and MediaTek have approved the merger of the two companies through a stock swap, with MediaTek to be the surviving company.
Ralink indicated that its solutions have been adopted by MediaTek in digital consumer products, and merging will leverage both their technology expertise. Ralink has been making efforts to deploy into handheld electronics applications, and is gearing to tap the e-book reader and tablet markets.
Ralink shares closed up 0.2% at NT$97.60 on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE) on April 7.
