Most motherboard makers, including Asustek Computer, Micro-Star International (MSI), Gigabyte Technology and ASRock, have posted strong sequential revenue gains in March 2011 due largely to deferred buying of Intel's Sandy Bridge-based motherboards, according to industry sources.
Asustek Computer shipped 2.4 million motherboards in March, the company's highest monthly record. For first-quarter 2011, motherboard shipments totaled 5.9 million units, higher than the 5.4 million units it projected earlier.
Asustek also shipped 2.8 million notebooks in the first quarter, which were on par with its projections. However, first-quarter netbook shipments were slightly lower than its target of 1.3 million units, indicated the sources.
