PCB maker Unitech Printed Circuit Board will begin to install production lines at its new plant in Ilan, northeast Taiwan in August with the commercial run of the plant slated for November 2011, according to the company.
The Ilan plant will focus on the production of inner layers for HDI boards initially and the new capacity will enable the company to roll out an additional two million handset-use HDI boards a month starting November, the company noted.
Shipments of HDI boards will account for 45% of the company's total PCB shipments in 2011 compared to 25% in 2010, the company estimated.
Duo to the need for capacity ramp, Unitech expects its capex to double to NT$3 billion (US$103.45 million) in 2011, two-thirds of which will be allocated for equipment purchase.
Unitech saw its consolidated revenues increase 18.5% sequentially to NT$1.32 billion in March, the company's highest level since October 2010. For the first quarter 2011, revenues totaled NT$3.67 billion, increasing 5.77% from a year earlier.
