Toray Advanced Film (TAF), a member of the Japan-based Toray Group, will invest JPY3.50 billion (US$42.1 million) to establish a subsidiary, Toray Advanced Film Kaohsiung, in Taiwan in May 2011 and set up a factory of TORTEC, its self-developed polyethylene-based film used to protect surface of TFT-LCD components and panels, in the Kaohsiung Site of the Southern Taiwan Science Park, according to the press releases by the Taiwan government and Toray Industries (the flagship of the Toray Group).

TAF and Toray Industries (holding a 94.41% stake in the former) will hold stakes of 70% and 30%, respectively, in the subsidiary. The factory will begin production in January 2013 with an initial annual output of 17,000 metric tons.

TAF has set up the factory, its first overseas one, mainly due to existing clustering of optoelectronics factories in Taiwan.
