Although Acer recently reduced its PC shipment forecast for the second quarter, Asustek Computer remains optimistic about its revenue performance for the quarter as the company was encouraged by strong sales in March, as well as delayed orders in April, according to sources from notebook players.
Asustek believes it will see sequential revenue growth in the second quarter despite the quarter normally being the traditional slow season, noted the sources adding that Asustek's confidence is mainly because the company still has a strong basis in the motherboard market, while the company has been seeing obvious improvements in inventory management within the past half year.
The sources pointed out that Asustek's on-month revenue growth of 70% in March was mainly due to strong shipments of its motherboard business, and with some orders being delayed from the first quarter to the second, while the company is expected to ship about 200,000-300,000 tablet PCs in the second quarter, Asustek is expected to see revenue growth in the second quarter.
As for the tablet PC market, despite that non-Apple tablet PC players are expected to grab 30% market share, since there are too many players, tablet PC business is unlikely to contribute significantly for notebook players, the sources added.
