Compal Electronics has downward adjusted its target notebook shipments for 2011 from 55 million units to 48 million units, according to company president Ray Chen at an investors conference on April 26.
The downward adjustment is mainly due to the impact of growing demand for tablet PCs on sales of notebooks as well as expected decreased orders form Acer, a large client, arising from Acer's adjustment in corporate organization, Chen explained. Chen said he is confident of the effectiveness of Acer's organizational adjustments.
In contrast with notebooks, Compal expects large on-year growth in 2011 shipments of tablet PCs and LCD TVs, setting shipment goals of 3.8 million units for the former and eight million units for the latter.
With shipments of only 10.4 million notebooks, Compal saw its first-quarter 2011 financial figures all drop on quarter and on year.
Compal's board of directors on April 26 decided to distribute a cash dividend of NT$2.70 per share for 2010, accounting for 50.19% of the corresponding net EPS of NT$5.38.
